PREPARATION OF THE XI-Th. ECEE

1. THE ORGANISING COMMITTEE

The Organising Committee of the XIth ECEE has continued his work since the last Executive Committee held in Paris.

The budget is now quite known, and the normal price has been decided at 3700 F TTC. Reduced fees will be proposed for students, and a financial support will be provided for some scientists who would not be able to attend the Conference otherwise. A list of accepted papers will be provided to National Delegates from eastern European countries for the selection of scientists who could be supported by the organisation.

A reduced cost will be offered to Associations so that they can have stands at the exhibition.

More than 950 abstracts have been received at the Secretariat of the Conference. Therefore, it is anticipated that more than 800 participants may attend the Conference. Consequently, the Organising Committee has judged that the capacity of the rooms has to be extended. So additional areas have been rented at the CNIT Conference Centre.

Finally, the Organising Committee has chosen the CD-ROM solution for the proceedings, but with a completely different way than in Acapulco : the editor (Balkema) will send a diskette to all authors so that they can send original files containing their abstract and their paper in a word processing format. Only figures will be digitised. Abstracts and major conferences will be issued in a paper volume. Both volume and CD will be given to the participants at the beginning of the Conference.

The final invitation will be sent world-wide during the first trimester of 1998. It will contain all necessary information including scientific program, social program, accommodation, registration, etc.

Parallel workshops will be organised, at the request of different associative bodies.

2. THE SCIENTIFIC COMMITTEE

All the abstracts are in the process of selection. They have been sent to members of the Scientific Committee, and the co-ordinators of the different topics are due to give the organisation of their theme by the beginning of December. The authors will be informed of the final decision before the end of December. The final papers are due in march, so that they can be sent to Balkema in due time.

As was explained previously, many papers will be presented in workshops, including posters and discussions.

4. AS A CONCLUSION

The main aspects of the organisation of the XIth ECEE are now determined, and the scientific program, including the organisation of sessions will be fixed at the end of this year, or early 1998.

Then, the final invitation will be distributed through Associations and by direct mailing.

The French Association trust that all members of the European Association will support its action by providing the information related to the XIth ECEE to all European scientists.
