Ambraseys briefly presented the EAEE TG2 report and answered several questions from the participants. He pointed out that only Bulgaria, Greece, Iceland, Slovenia, Switzerland and Turkey answered to the questionnaire, which was sent to different European data centres, and institutions. The summaries of their strong motion activities are attached to the TG2 report. The report will be sent to all TG2-members in October 1998.

Following to the feedback and the comments to the questionnaire which was sent to different European data centres and institutions, it was proposed to establish an INTERNET site in which any agencies could deposit and download free-field strong-motion data from the European area. He also proposed that all 1000 uncorrected three component acceleration time histories collected and processed in the frame of the EC-project "Dissemination of European strong motion data" which started in August 1998 with the consent of the EC will be contributed to this INTERNET site according to the following plan:

In the first stage, access to the site will have only all participants of this project. During this stage, the site will be operated by ENEL/ENEA, CEA and ICSTM.

In the second stage, the site will be mirrored with identical sites in Rome, Paris and London and extended allowing interactive depositing of strong-motion data and other information.

The site will be opened for those agencies who contributed strong-motion data to the site or to the EC-project. The site should be completed by the end of 1999.

It was pointed out that no funds are available for the establishment and maintenance of the site. The initial work for the establishment of the site will be done by ICSTM in collaboration with ENEL/ENEA and CEA (participants of the EC-project). He invited the TG2-members to contribute their uncorrected strong-motion data and manpower to the INTERNET-project.

It was discussed if the corrected strong-motion data as well as response spectra should be loaded on this site. Many of the potential end-users of the data are not willing or able to process the strong-motion data and therefore request corrected time histories and spectral data (Gariel). It was pointed out that for many of the older analogue strong-motion records no information about the instrument characteristics are available. He asked who would process the data in order to get the corrected records as well as the response spectra. At the end of the discussion all participants agreed:

• that an EAEE TG2-INTERNET site according to the proposal should be established,
• that the contributing agencies should prepare and process the data with their own techniques and deposit the uncorrected and corrected time histories as well as response spectra and station- instrument- waveform- and earthquake-parameters on the site. The agency responsible for the maintenance of the site will check the data, and, if necessary, ask for clarification or correction.

Finally, it was proposed that not only time histories and spectra but data, specifications and information from the strong-motion networks and arrays as well as information about research work carried out in the different agencies should be available on the site (figure 1).

The following countries/agencies agreed to contribute strong-motion data to the EAEE TG2-INTERNET site:

• Iran - Dr. A. Moinfar; analogue data from the Iranian national strong-motion network,
• Greece - Dr. B.N. Margaris; strong-motion data from the ITSAK strong-motion network,
• Portugal - Prof. C.S. Oliveira; strong-motion data from Portugal,
• Spain - R.B. Martínez; data from the Spanish national strong-motion network.

The coordinators will send letters to the participants and ask for the strong-motion data as well as for permission to deposit the data on the INTERNET site.
