From Hungarian National Committee for Earthquake Engineering

On 20th January 1999, the Hungarian National Committee for Earthquake Engineering had a meeting and round table discussion on the subject of "Seismotectonics in the Carpathian Basin: geological and seismic risks at siting of nuclear facilities and nuclear waste disposals"

The meeting was opened by Prof. E. Dulácska, head of the National Committee of EAEE and IAEE. Five opening presentations have been delivered by leading experts (Prof. A. Meskó, Prof. F. Horváth, Dr. L. Tóth, Dr. G. Bada and Prof. I. Fejes) of the field.

Some sixty people - including the deputy head of the Hungarian Parliament, other MPs and government officials - attended and participated the interesting and sometimes heated discussions. The actuality of the subject was given by an ongoing project for site selection of a low and medium level radioactive waste disposal in Hungary.
