Minutes of the Workshop on Seismoisolation

China, Guangzhou Construction University, Guangzhou, October 10, 1998

In accordance with the Agreement of cooperation between the Earthquake Engineering Re-search Center, TsNIISK, Russian State Construction Committee, Russian National Committee in Earthquake Engineering and South China Construction University and Shantou Vibro Tech Indus-trial and Development Company, signed July 12, 1998, a Workshop in seismoisolation was held in South China Construction University, October 10, 1998.

During the workshop several presentations were made by participants of Russian and Chinese side. The further development in seismoisolation research design and construction was dis-cussed.

The tests of steel-rubber high-damping seismoisolation supports with lead cylindrical elements were provided in the Earthquake. Testing Research Center, Gunagzhou University. The Russian experts have participated in the tests. The tested supports were of high vertical bearing capacity- 300 to 600 tons. The 300-tons vertical bearing load supports were produced for the retrofitted Bank building in Irkutsk-city, Siberia, Russia. The 600 tons individual supports now the most powerful in China and in Russia and one of the most powerful in the world. When the vertical load is maximal the maximum horizontal displacements reached 375 mm, which is limited by the loading equipment technical possibilities. The participants agreed that these tests are a considerable step in vibro-isolation development and application.

The participants came to decision to prepare a common paper concerning the steel-rubber seismoisolation recent development and application in Russia and China for presentation at the XII World Conference in Earthquake Engineering New Zealand, 2000.

The participants have prepared and have sent to the Organising Committee of the XII WCEE in New Zealand an Abstract of the presentation.
