The special session TS3 was devoted to topics related to the Post Earthquake Investigations. 18 papers have been selected for the entire session.
This session was opened by the Prof. N. Ambraseys who delivered a lecture on the Value of Earthquake Reconnaissance Missions.
- In the first part of the session, chaired by Dr. C. Martin, four Experiences Case Histories were presented (Augusta, Italy (1990); Northridge, USA (1994); Cariaco, Venezuela (1997); Iran (1997)). Prof. W. Hays chaired the second part devoted to the Procedure (disaster management, engineering management) and the Utilisation (use of strong motion records, new methodology for churches analysis) of the Post Earthquake Investigations.
- The themes of the afternoon poster session - chaired by Pr. A. Elnashai and C. Boutin - were related to Methodology (Building inspection, Photogrammetry), New technologies (GIS, Internet, CD-ROM) and Experience feedback of Post earthquake Investigations. After the visit to the posters, Prof. P. Labbé launched a debate on these topics.
Finally, presentations and discussion of the experiences of investigation teams from Turkey, France, Switzerland, Germany on the Adana - Ceyan earthquake (Turkey, 1998) have closed the session.
